Hello everyone. Today starts the beginning of my blog on books I have read and enjoyed. I would like to invite you to comment on the books as well. In addition, perhaps you may have a favorite book or author you would like to recommend to readers of this blog as well. (I would caution though that if a book is one which deals with adult subject matter that you warn readers ahead of time. I also reserve the right to remove any post or book recommendations which I deem inappropriate or obscene. I also request there be no personal attacks toward any person who may comment on this blog, myself, or any authors who may be mentioned in this blog. and lastly, I hope this blog will appeal to a large number of persons, including young adults, so language should be appropriate as well.)
First, let me tell you about my history of reading.
One of the greatest gifts my parents, particularly my mom, gave me was the love of reading. I can not remember a time when mom did not have something at hand to read. She was a writer as well and had a thirst for not just learning new things but sharing them with others. She often would write an article for a newspaper or magazine and ask her children to read it before submitting it. Then there was dad. I can still see him in my mind, his reading glasses on, a book in his hand right before bed time. Dad created for me a love of Louis L'Amour and Zane Grey.
Growing up, I graduated from Dr. Seus to reading anything I could get my hands on. In junior high school my teacher, Coach Stewart, assigned me a report on rabbit hunting. (I know right? ). While I had never had any interest in rabbit hunting before (and don't hunt now), I just started reading everything I could find about rabbits and rabbit hunting. By the time I was finished, I had a 5 page report on rabbit hunting and could talk about it with ease. From this I learned to broaden my horizon from westerns and explore other subjects.. And so I began reading more than just your standard novels and the cartoon section of the newspaper. Reading helped me explore not just my world but also visit the world of others.
So, anyways, that is my history of reading. As I go forward with this blog, I will start out with reviewing some of the books I have read or am reading. I hope others will join in and tell me about their history of reading. And if we happen to have read or are reading the same book, I hope they will tell me their thoughts on it as well.
Thanks for coming to my blog. Happy Reading
Laura
